Dr Giovanni Ferrari is a Tenured Associate Professor of Surgery and Biomedical Engineering and Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery Research at Columbia University, New York, USA. A cell and molecular biologist by training, Dr Ferrari establish his first independent laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania (Dept of Surgery), where, between 2008 and 2017, he developed a basic and translational research program to investigated valve and aortic diseases. He was recruited by Columbia University in 2017 and was awarded tenure in 2019. Dr Ferrari is leading a translational research program to understand the physiology and mechanobiology of multiple cardiovascular diseases. He has published >90 scientific manuscripts in the area of cardiovascular medicine and precision medicine. Dr Ferrari has a strong history of NIH extramural supports with over $ 16M in awards as Principal Investigator and $ 30M as a whole. Since 2009, Dr Ferrari has also been serving as Principal Investigator of two Cardiac Biobanks (the Penn Cardiac Biobank and The Columbia Biobank for Translational Medicine) enrolling over 4,000 patients undergoing different cardiothoracic surgery procedures.
